Hello MDG Family!
I hope you are all well, managing to stay creatively active and collectively safe. It is a HUGE shift in everything as we know it that we are living right now. “We’re ALL on this journey TOGETHER.” We need to be kind, stay positive and stay virtually connected with each other as much as possible.
This time has inspired me to reflect and focus on improving my personal health, fitness and habits. We are giving the studio a facelift. We are keeping the studio and equipment extra clean as well as inspected to be ready for you when we can return to action at MDG. Over the years, MDG has become my life so I am taking this time to find a more balanced approach to life.
I was called to take an unexpected walk down memory lane this past week. I was interviewed by a reporter for the Free Press. In 1980, I qualified to be on the Canadian Olympic Team for Artistic gymnastics. Although I am an Olympian, I did not actually compete at the Olympics that year due to the Boycott. Questions centered on what this experience was like for me and how did it affect me? What do I think about the Tokyo 2020 Olympics being postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 situation? I think it is brilliant that the 2020 Olympics have been postponed rather than cancelled. As difficult as the situation is, athletes will still have the opportunity to show the world their best next summer. In 1980 there was no such option. I was lucky enough to have competed in the 1979 Pre-Olympics in Moscow and establish a high world ranking. 1979 was an exciting and very successful year. Something I learned from a very young age that was fostered by my parents was “Never Give Up!”. In the face of adversity, assess to learn from the situation and make the best of it. Next, strive to move forward with strength, courage and resilience. Not an easy way to move through life, but this is the Goermann way.
THANK YOU to all of you who are working in the Health care industry AND in essential businesses. THANK YOU to all of you who are staying and working from home. THANK YOU to all of you for continuing to support MDG. This COVID-19 situation too shall pass. We will be changed in many ways when it is safe to resume our usual lives. For now, “Life is not cancelled”. Let’s make the best of it! Treasure the time with your family, stay strong, practice gratitude and be kind to those you see along the way.
With Respect and Gratitude,
Monica
