WORLD-CLASS CIRCUS TROUPE GIVES LIFE TO THE
REFUGEE STRUGGLE THROUGH A UNIQUE
PERFORMANCE OF ACROBATIC STORYTELLING,
SPOKEN WORD AND LIVE MUSIC.

Performed by Momentum Aerial and Acrobatic Troupe, “Ten Thousand Prayers” is a series of stories that seeks to break down our misconceptions – the barriers between the faces we see on the news, and the people we meet in real life.

The catalyst for the performance was an idea of Maia Thomlinson, 18, who is an acrobatic storyteller, circus artist and aspiring writer. “I was inspired by the refugees’ courage and ability to hold on to hope in the face of such struggles; I wanted to create a forum where their stories could be heard,” said Maia. “Ten Thousand Prayers gives a voice to the voiceless.”

Upon sharing her vision with director Monica Goermann, the show became our shared artistic vision; I brought the stories, and she came in with her choreographic and strategic skill, her ability to connect diverse ideas.” Said Maia

To make the performance even more impactful, the refugees whose stories are being told will be in attendance.  “This is their story and it is an honour and a privilege to give it life,” said Maia.

For the performance, world renowned circus performer, Yamoussa Bangoura will be sharing his acrobatic and musical talent. He adds such energy and skill, he will be sure to thrill the audience,” said Monica.

Performance details:
–          Thursday, December 22
–          7:00pm
–          Le Centre Cultural Franco-Manitoban
–          Tickets are $20 plus GST

“We want to stand in solidarity with the refugees around the world and leave the audience breathless,” said Maia.
